for Millington Village

The Vision of Millington Village

Millington Village is a proposal to redevelop the TIFA property (50 Division Avenue) into a transit oriented mixed-use community that complements and strengthens the goals of the Township’s Millington Development Plan. The old industrial buildings that exist on the site are no longer appropriate or desirable in the core of Millington as may have been the case previously, in a bygone time. As such, these buildings will be demolished to be replaced with high quality multi-family residences and neighborhood commercial center integrated into a vibrant transit village with an attractive, comprehensive design that matches the charming character of Millington and supplements and complements the existing village amenities and businesses.

Transforming  outdated developments  to adapt to a changing economic and demographic climate is also promoted by several recent publications by notable authors and educators, including New Jersey's Post suburban Economy  by  James W. Hughes;  Joseph Seneca (new-jersey-s-postsuburban-economy)  and  Retrofitting Suburbia: Urban Design Solutions for Redesigning Suburbs by  Ellen Dunham-Jones (Retrofitting-Suburbia).

Millington Village will complement and create a “live work play” lifestyle to attract young professionals, empty nesters and seniors seeking highly amenitized rental housing in a walkable community. High-end finishings along with a host of resident amenities such as a club house, fitness center, pool and covered parking will ensure the utmost comfort and convenience. Situated in an optimum location adjacent to the Millington NJ Transit train station, Millington Village is well suited to provide transit options for residents and patrons alike by offering an integrated connection to regional destinations and employment hubs. Additionally, the arrangement of commercial areas in Millington Village will enhance sidewalk streetscapes and be integrated with an outdoor corner public plaza feature that will serve as an area for such uses as outdoor dining, public gatherings, art exhibits, antique shows or small music events. The commercial area is scaled to complement the existing neighborhood commercial area near the station while improving goods and services in the area for improved economic vitality.

Millington Village will offer both one- and two-bedroom units at market rents. This community will also address Long Hill Township’s affordable housing obligation through the inclusion of several low and moderate income apartments.
